DXF import and DXF export functions of EXDXF-Pro

This is the basic information of DXF import and DXF export functions of "EXDXF-Pro" which can connect Adobe Illustrator (AI) and CAD.

Versions of DXF

"DXF" is a file format formluated to provide compatibility between different versions of AutoCad by Autodesk, Inc. "DXF" has several versions as such :

AC1032 AutoCAD 2018
AC1027 AutoCAD 2013/LT2013
AC1024 AutoCAD 2010/2011/2012
AC1021 AutoCAD 2007/2008/2009
AC1018 AutoCAD 2004/2005/2006
AC1015 AutoCAD 2000/LT2000
AC1014 AutoCAD R14/LT97/LT98
AC1012 AutoCAD R13/LT95
AC1009 AutoCAD R12/LT2/GX-5

Import DXF to AI by EXDXF-Pro

When you import DXF to AI by "EXDXP-Pro", please prepare DXF from CAD with following versions:

AC1009 – AutoCAD R12
AC1012 – AutoCAD R13/LT95
AC1014 – AutoCAD R14/LT97/LT98

You can also import versions after AC1015. However, the reproducibility such as spline curves may become low. Therefore, for the DXF on or after version AC1015, we would recommend to use AI's standard import function.

Width of LINE, ARC, CIRCLE, ELLIPSE (AutoCAD 2000 / AC1015)

[Not supported]
Carts (ACAD_TABLE) after AutoCAD 2005.

[Remark]
If your DXF data is on or after AC1015 but from other CAD systems, and you are not working well with AI's standard function, you should try our "EXDXP-Pro". You may be able to have much better results.

Export from Adobe Illustrator to DXF by "EXDXF-Pro"

DXF files exported from Adobe Illustrator by "EXDXF-Pro" are R12 compliant and readable by many CAD systems.

How to check DXF versions

You can check a version of DXF file if you can open the file by text editing applications such as Memopad or TextEdit. The DXF file exported by CAD can also be checked its DXF version with the same way.
